3Dme Creative Studio recently met with project partners TAFE Queensland, University of Southern Queensland, Gravel Road and Diabetes Queensland to present a milestone update on 3Dme’s development of the eLearning platform and content. This exciting project, funded by the Australian Government Department of Education, targets training and skills development in the health sector by providing cutting edge interactive full high definition 3D immersive eLearning opportunities delivered via high speed broadband technology. We have named this project the IVLE or Individual Virtual Learning Environment, and are developing 6 HD 3D immersive, interactive diabetes education modules for undergraduate health professionals, teachers and diabetes educators. The platform is currently in development, with Beta testing scheduled for September 2014. EduTECH 2014 Congresses and Expo delegates will have the opportunity to attend a special preview.
For this project, we have utilised interaction methods common to video games to create a series of immersive learner interactions around diabetes. The interactions vary in complexity depending on the subject material they aim to teach. The interactions also reflect an investigative learning style which gives the user an engaging but challenging learning experience and requires active thinking to navigate. Additional features include a workspace which enables the user to upload new content, add videos, add links, upload video to a dedicated Youtube Channel or launch video conferencing. After watching one of the diabetes modules, the user can launch the quiz which is a form of assessment. Once the user starts the quiz they are presented with a series of multiple choice questions based on module material. When complete and submitted the user’s results are viewable. All students’ results are stored and viewable from the dashboard which can be customised to be viewed only by specific users, for example teachers.
We are excited to be showcasing this project at the upcoming 2014 EduTECH www.edutech.net.au and will be located at Booth No. 163. 3rd and 4th June. Supported by 3Dme’s instructional design leader, partner representative from the University of Southern Queensland Dr Kate Kauter, Lecturer Biomedical Sciences, School of Nursing and Midwifery, will present the IVLE project to approximately 80 people at 3 breakout sessions between 11am and 12.50pm on Wednesday 4th June. We look forward to sharing the functionalities and capabilities of this innovative new eLearning platform at EduTECH 2014!by
